Hawaii FUE Hair Transplant

Follicular Unit Extraction In Honolulu

Follicular Unit Extraction is a newly developed hair transplant procedure in which each follicular unit is removed separately, rather than transplanting strips of hair bearing skin. The number of hairs within a follicular unit can be as few as 1 hair to as many as 4 hairs. There are many advantages to this hair restoration technique over traditional transplantation, including:

  •  Your recovery time is quicker than with traditional hair transplants
  •  FUE is minimally invasive, lessening any surgery risks to you
  •  Hair donor areas are left with virtually undetectable scars
  •  Post-surgery pain in your donor area is minimal
  •  You have fewer limitations during the 1st week(s) after surgery
  •  Regrowth of hair in donor area happens quickly, making any bruising almost unnoticeable

     Disadvantages include:

  •  Less hair can be harvested than with strip methods
  •  The cost is much higher than with traditional harvesting techniques
  •  The extraction of hair is difficult, requiring a surgeon and team with specialized skills and experience.
How An FUE Hair Transplant Is Performed

The advances and unique benefits of follicular unit extraction come from the system of hair follicle extraction it uses.

The follicular unit grafts are taken from the donor area using a specialized punch that is less than 1 millimeter in diameter. Extracting a follicular unit involves a multi-step process. First, a small punch is used to cut the skin surrounding the unit. Then another, duller punch is used to go further down into the tissue.

The duller punch is used to prevent severing the follicular unit below the skin. Instead, it separates the unit from the tissue while keeping it completely intact as it’s taken from the donor area. This ensures that the hair follicle has the greatest growth potential possible.

A small hole is left after this is done, but it heals over in the next few days after surgery. In addition, this extremely tiny wound actually contracts during the healing process. This ensures that any scar that remains is virtually undetectable once your hair grows out.

This is a major advance over the traditional strip excision hair transplantation method and the long, linear scar it produces.

The FUE hair transplantation method, with its direct extraction from the scalp, means there is little, if any, use of scalpel or stitching. These are done away with almost completely due to the advances of this hair restoration technique.

The follicular unit extraction (FUE) patient’s donor area also heals much quicker than those undergoing the strip excision method. This means a quicker return to your routine and less disruption to your life.
